Half of the Yellow Sun Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie A Novel
The book switches between three narrators that are all connected. Ugwu, is a servant boy of a Professor. Olanna, is the Professor's girlfriend and Richard is Olanna's sister's boyfriend. After their lives settle in, at about 150 pages the revolution breaks out and starts to affect their lives. So This all takes place in Nigeria in the sixties. And basically whats happening is a General in the government is tired of taking orders from Britain (i think) and starts to get and army together and is trying to detach Nigeria from Britain? And Everyone's been talking about it and it finally happened.
RESEARCH QUESTION:Who exactly were the Nigerians gaining independence from and why did they want to?

This is a good question. It seems the problem is one that is the legacy of Imperialism. We can talk about this more in class. But you should definitely look at the history and effects of imperialism in Nigeria. Also look into legacy. This will likely shed some light. Let me know when you have done that and we can create a question that better connects the text to the disputes.
